Zhang Hongmin may not be well-known in the United States … but in China, he literally needs no introduction. With over 600 million viewers nightly, he has the highest television viewership ratings in China (and probably the world).
After graduating with honors from Beijing College of Broadcasting with a degree in television journalism, Mr. Hongmin began his affiliation with China Central Television
(CCTV) in 1982, and has served as host of the Chinese Evening News for over 20 years. Having earned the title of China's most trusted and respected news anchor, Mr. Hongmin's reporting has taken him to over one hundred countries. In addition, his career has given him opportunities to interview and travel with practically all of China's major political figures and celebrities and scores of world leaders and personalities.
In addition to his career at CCTV, Zhang is passionate about his work in cross-cultural exchanges between China and the United States. "I love both the Chinese and American cultures," says Mr.
Hongmin, "and I want to do all I can to promote them." In 1996, he established his own company to sponsor cultural, educational and technological exchange programs for Chinese and Americans. With his experience and contacts in his country's film and TV industry (at one time, he owned his own TV distribution company), Mr. Hongmin has made it possible for many Chinese movies to make their way to American audiences.
